Bio

I’m a global historian of Europe in the 20th century. My research focuses on anticolonial activism and transnational solidarity movements in the 1960s and 1970s.

My current project explores how Third World liberation movements and European “internal colonies” came to see themselves as part of a global revolutionary alliance. I’m especially interested in how Irish, Palestinian, and South African militants actualized these solidarities through military and diplomatic collaboration.

My research interests are informed by my experiences in journalism and human rights advocacy. Before coming to Berkeley, I worked with the Chicago Innocence Center, Progress Michigan, and the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights to challenge human rights violations from the Flint Water Crisis to the US-Mexico border.

My writing has appeared in the Dublin Review of Books, Hong Kong Review of Books, and LSE Review of Books. I’ve also written for popular media including Truthout, Common Dreams, AlterNet, and Black Agenda Report.

I hold a BSc from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism and an MSt from Oxford University in modern British and European history.
